American artist Meg Webster and the Dia Art Foundation have launched a new unisex fragrance in collaboration with Comme des Garçons, Dia x Meg Webster.
The fragrance, along with the distinctive design of its bottle and box, was developed in close collaboration with American artist Meg Webster (born in 1944, San Francisco, CA). Webster is known for her indoor sculptures composed of salt, earth, sand, and other natural materials, as well as outdoor installations that foster deeper awareness of and engagement with the earth’s ecosystem.
The pictogram on the bottle references a diagrammatic element from Webster’s early sculptures, which often featured enclosed spaces designed to activate viewer engagement by positioning participants in relation to one another within the sculptural environment.

The starting point for the fragrance, says Webster, was a list of four words: Forest. Rock. Soil. Flesh. She worked with perfumer Emilie Coppermann over the course of two years to fine-tune it. “We were looking for a scent that would evoke the smell of the natural materials used in my sculpture while also retaining its own distinct characteristics,” Webster says. “The fragrance we created is delicate like air, wind, rain, or a young plant.”
The notes for the spicy woody mineral fragrance include bay oil, geranium, olibanum, carrot seed, mushroom accord (myrrh, labdanum, tree moss), patchouli, mineral wood and sandalwood.
Comme des Garçons Dia x Meg Webster is available now at Dover Street Market, in 50 ml Eau de Toilette, $330.
